HE SINGS BY THE LIGHT OF THE MOON
(a read-aloud poem)
Said Shelty McKelty, “Hey, Pearl, sweet girl,
Let’s call on Johnny McSquawk!”
Pearl, in a swoon, lit up like a goon
And replied with excitement, “Oh, dear!
“Doesn’t Johnny McSquawk move with a quick walk
And sing by the light of the moon, the silvery, silvery moon?”
Yes he sings by the light of the moon!
With Shelty and Pearl that day.
Dressed to the hilt they danced a fine lilt
‘Til the moon grew big and gray.
Then precisely at three (and much to Pearl’s glee!)
Johnny stopped, looked up, then at she.
" ♫ I

Yes, he sings by the light of the moon, the silvery, silvery moon.
